Plots in Silonque
" Enjoy the outdoors just far enough away from town "
Just 5km north of Phalaborwa lie the Silonque plots.
The properties on the Eastern side of the road running through to the Kruger National Park fenceline have dropped fences to allow for the free movement of game over an area totalling approximately 1500ha.
Occasionally game spills over from the Kruger, and lion, wild dog, buffalo and elephant have been seen in this area, but impala, waterbuck, duiker, steenbok, warthogs and a host of the smaller nocturnal animals are permanent residents.
There is no formal conservancy for these properties, but owners do co-operate and employ a security guard to monitor and control access to the area.
On the western side of the road the plots are still individually fenced, and whilst some of these properties are open to some of their neighbours and sport small herds of impala, most are individually fenced.
Owners here still have domestic livestock, vegetable gardens and small orchards - and whilst game is seen from time to time, the birdlife is amazingly varied and provides one with hours of entertainment and enjoyment.
